♫♪♫♪ Tune into the Divine By Chanting Mantras and chants* Compiled by Mary Broidy from materials provided by Sivananda and Jivamukti Yoga Centers *Mantra = a sacred syllable, word, or set of words through the repetition and reflection of which one attains perfection, or realization of the Self. *Chant = a song of raised Consciousness. Chanting is devotional (bahkti) yoga, by which the yogi aligns with the Divine presence and releases his ego. The vibrations are highly purifying. I) Nirguna (Without Form) Mantras Om The primal sound of the Divine. The most powerful mantra. It invokes pure supreme vibrations. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was God (OM). Soham I Am That. This mantra asserts the non-dualistic reality of the Self, as Pure Consciousness, Immortal and Eternal, as well as a connection with the entire Universe. II) Ganesha Mantra and Chants Om Sri Maha Ganapataye Namah Mantra for Ganesha, the Remover of Obstacles and Bestower of Success. Jaya Ganesha, Jaya Ganesha, Jaya Ganesha Paahimaam Sri Ganesha, Sri Ganesha, Sri Ganesha, Rakshamaam Hail to Ganesha, Remover of Obstacles, Save me. Hail to Ganesha, Remover of Obstacles. Protect me. Ganesha Sharanam, Sharanam Ganesha I take refuge in the One who Removes Obstacles. III) Shiva Mantra and Chants Om Namah Shivaya Mantra for Shiva, the Divine Destroyer of negative tendencies. Shiva liberates through change and upheaval. Greatly purifying, his mantra gives harmony and poise, intuitive knowledge, integration of mind and intellect, great strength in spiritual practices, and protection from negative karma. Hara Hara Mahadeva Shambho Kashi Vishwanatha Gange Prostrations to Shiva, grantor of happiness and prosperity. IV) Vishnu Mantras Hari Om Hari is another name for Vishnu. Hari is a Redeemer and Guide to personal salvation as well as the World Preserver. Om Namo Narayanaya Mantra for Vishnu, the Preserver. It is a mantra of peace, used to invoke balance in an off-centered world. V) Krishna Mantras (incarnation of Vishnu) Om Namo Baghavate Vasudevaya Mantra for Krishna, also known as Vasudevaya, which means “He Who Abides in All Things and In Him All Things Abide.” Hare Raama Hare Raama Raama Raama Hare Hare Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Hare Hare The Maha Mantra, meaning “Great Mantra.” This Mantra should be sung in entirety and not broken in any way. It is meant to bring to bring purity of the mind and heart.
